From great street food and city skyline to picturesque nature and cheap apartments, we list 5 most affordable places to live for digital nomad girls.
- Chiang Mai, Thailand (from $600 p/m)
Growing digital nomad community, affordable housing, amazing food, and coworking spaces, make this place one of the most popular destinations for digital nomad girls. You can rely on a good internet connection and will have many opportunities to meet like-minded people. Plus, the culture and history are fascinating.
- Ubud, Bali (from $900 p/m)
Search for photos of #ubudbali on Instagram and you will see why you should pay a visit. It has large and growing community of independent workers: creatives, startups, entrepreneurs. Many of them stay in Ubud for more than a few months, because you can rent a beautiful house near the ocean for $400 p/m. But consider buying a local data plan as the internet can be unreliable. It’s easy to eat healthy food, do morning yoga and the beaches are perfect. Hence, you will have lots of places to travel and things to do during the weekends.
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (from $750 p/m)
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and has long been a popular destination for remote workers. The city is very loud, filled with motorbikes and amazing fresh street food. Here you have the perfect digital nomad combination: great internet and cheap food. As the result, Ho Chi Minh City is attracting more full-time remote workers. If you are up for the buzz and are tired of laid-back beach lifestyle, you will really love it.
- Prague, Czech Republic (from $900 p/m)
Do you love history, culture and can’t live without winter? Then Prague is your place to go. It has literally everything you need, from the speedy internet and coworking spaces to the delicious food and easy Europe travel. Take a flight or bus to Germany, Italy or Netherlands, literally, anytime you want.
- Bangkok, Thailand (from $900 p/m)
Everything in Bangkok is perfect for digital nomad girls just like you. A nice apartment costs from $300-$800, while mobile data is fast and affordable. The variety of food, cafes, and shopping malls is amazing, however, the weather can be super hot at times.
Whether you’re are a girl who is just starting out or have been a pro digital nomad girl for a long time, these awesome cities guarantee fascinating experience and vibrant communities.

With the exception of Prague, I have done all the rest and I have to say that I quite agree. It is definitely paradise for people who are on the move. More importantly they are affordable.
Penny, thanks for the comment. Can you add more places to the list? 🙂
Love this, I’ve just started freelancing and I’m about to head to Central America. Excited for digital nomad life! I’ve never been to Bali but it’s definitely calling me 🙂
I definitely thought about moving to Prague when I went – it is such a vibrant city but oh so cheap too! One day I’ll be able to live the nomad life 🙂
I know Prague has awesome internet (exactly like Hungary or Romania), but when you say “good” what speeds are we talking about?
I’ve recently lived in Italy for 5 weeks and it was cruel. Wi-fi 4G router off which I could barely make Skype calls 🙁
And btw: both Hungary and Romania are cheaper than the Czech Rep.
I’m currently home (Romania) but want to go somewhere again. However, I need very reliable internet and that’s hard to find.
May I suggest Estonia? 😉 Tallinn is still relatively cheap and there is cheap and reliable internet almost everywhere. Might be worth looking into if you want to stay for cheap in Europe!
Yeah! Tallin is also on the European list 🙂 I should make another article!
Definitely am gonna check out Prague!
I visited Ubud recently and would absolutely LOVE to make my digital nomad base someday! It’s such a beautiful place. All of these options are great choices!
Looks like Southeast Asia is the place to be! I’ve definitely heard that those are great places to be. It won’t be long until I can live the digital nomad life!! This helps me get excited for sure!
Thanks for the tips! I love your blog, pure, minimalistic and easy to read.
In Novi Sad, Serbia you can rent cool 1 bdr appartment for as little as 200 euros and costs od living are pretty affordable. Maybe you should try 😉
Thanks for the tip! I was thinking about Serbia as well 🙂
How interesting! I have never seen myself as a digital nomad and somehow my life draws me literally into the most expensive countries on earth. If I ever need a radical change, I’ll come back to this article 🙂
Thanks =) Well, expensive places are also very nice 😉
I love that you listed these out because I am always wondering where the next place I can live on a budget is. Definitely saving for reference!
I want to be a digital nomad/slow travellee woman (I am nearly 50 so girl would be a stretch!) – this lifestyle appeals to us too – great way to live while we head for retirement- lots more of us wanting to do this and actually doing this out there! Will pin – maybe this holds the key to my future! Thanks
Never too old for travelling! Thanks and good luck
Happy to see another 50+ person here. I’m 56 and have been location-independent for 3 years now. I sold the house, car and nearly everything else, put the rest in storage and packed my bags for Asia and Europe. I love exploring new cities and it’s actually cheaper than where I used to live. There are definitely lots of retired and semi-retired nomads out here, so join in when you’re ready!
I’m currently traveling slow through Central America and highly recommend checking out Nicaragua! It’s so cheap and totally gorgeous. There’s a lot of inspiration here (and it’s perfect for practicing Spanish.)
Yes! Central America and South America are also fascinating! Thanks =)
Thanks so much for the list, i was actually going to look for cheap places to work remotely sooner or later. Happy to have stumbled upon your article. Do you know of any such places outside of Asia?
Thanks for the feedback. I will do another article to list European places and also Central America and others. Check back soon or sign up for updates 🙂
I’m so excited to see Bali on this list, who knew? Thanks so much for sharing, I can’t wait to check some of these places out in the (hopefully) near future. I lived in South Korea for a year and have to say that was also a cheap place to live as far as apartment rental and utilities and access to things. Plus, you don’t need a car so that was a huge money saver as well!
That’s totally awesome! South Korea is so unique and amazing I think =)
What a great list, all beautiful places and super affordable 🙂
Thanks =)
Prague and Chiang Mai are both places I could live in but a city as busy as Ho Chi Minh would drive me completely nuts.
I would live in any of these!! Although Ho Chi Minh might be my least favourite. Prague would be so amazing!
I am in Bangkok right now and love it. Lot’s of digital nomads and cowork spaces. Cheap nannies if you have kids. Cheap luxury apartments. Great food everywhere you go. Considering Bali next.
Hi Alina, I’ve worked in both Bangkok and Chiang Mai, would like to try out Ubud and Ho Chi Minh, but Prague, no, Europe is too cold most of the year for me!
Europe is actually great for digital nomads and work. Plus, you can fly for 10-20 euros to almost anywhere =) The winter is really nice. But I love winter, so I am a little bit biased 😀
I love this! I hope to be able to do this during the summers when I finally have a break from school!
Great article. I just want to add to the list Bansko, Bulgaria, I have been living here for the last few years. I am not really a nomad – more of a sedent 🙂 but I welcome a great deal of nomads because of my work constantly. It is very affordable and a pretty safe beautiful town.
Hi, great blog Alina, Im happy to do a guest post if youre interested. I live and work as a DN near Milan Italy (with fast wifi in my home) great transport links. Im offering another Digital Nomad like me, the chance to get to know Italy. Theres a fully equiped home with your own room, great coworking space and everything you need. For 6weeks or more email me wisequeens@gmail.com http://www.wisequeens.squarespace.com
Very cool. What have you been your favorite places to live & work? Finding strong wifi is a must. Any site that ranks these places via wifi strength.
My favourite city so far is Lisbon. Have a look at http://www.nomadlist.com They have a ranking and more relevant info about all the cities.
I’ve only been to Prague on this list, but actually CAN live without winter. These other locations look like great ones to add to my travel bucket list.
I love winter =) And I am missing it so much at the moment.=)
